ALERT: CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) RESPONSE

About the Virus

Information on the virus. Tips on staying healthy.

Key Facts
Most people who have gotten sick with this virus have had a mild case. Most cases do not involve children; those that do are usually very mild.
People over 60 years old or those with health problems like asthma, COPD, heart disease, or renal disease have a heightened risk of experiencing a more severe case.
For more information, please refer to the Centers for Disease Control or the Tennessee Department of Health.
How to Protect Yourself
  • Practice social distancing > 6 ft. in public spaces.

  • Wash your hands often.

  • Sneeze or cough into your elbows or a Kleenex.

  • Avoid touching your face.

  • If you have a cough, sore throat, or low-grade fever, stay home. Take acetaminophen (Tylenol) for any body aches or fever. Rest and drink plenty of fluids.

Symptoms
Fever, cough, and shortness of breath are the most common symptoms of the coronavirus. Other symptoms may include headache, body aches, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of taste/smell, chills, sore throat, runny nose/ congestions, sinus pressure, ear pain, red watery eyes, nose bleed, dizziness, difficulty thinking, labored breathing, chest pain, increased heart rate, abdominal pain, decreased appetite, joint pain, a “burning sensation” of the skin, and unusual rashes.
If you develop symptoms AND have been in close contact with a person known to have the virus, then seek medical advice immediately.
Our Response

We have temporarily modified our approach to scheduling, visits, and treatment to keep pace with the latest developments.

Scheduling
In order to reduce patient exposures to potential contagious illness, we continue to separate patient appointments into two categories: well visits and sick visits.
Well visits will occur in the morning and early afternoon. Continue to enter by the front door and check in as usual. To comply with social distancing guidelines, please help us keep our waiting room empty by arriving no more than 15 minutes early to your appointment.
Sick visits will occur in the afternoon. If you are suffering any of the following symptoms, your visit is considered a sick visit: fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle/body aches, sinus drainage, unusual rashes,  nausea, vomiting and/or headache. During these visits, the office medical professionals will wear additional protective equipment as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
Upon arrival for your sick visit: We have “reserved parking” available for our sick patients. Please utilize the parking lot between our office and the pharmacy. Please call to notify us of your arrival, and remain in your car. A nurse will come out to get you when your exam room is ready.
Masks
We continue to follow the CDC guidelines regarding masks. On May 17, 2021, the CDC clarified the change in policy by stating masks should continue to be worn by all individuals within the medical facilities, both patients and staff. As an extra measure of precaution, we ask that every patient wear a mask before entering the office building until returning to your vehicle. Please feel free to use a mask or face covering home.

Telehealth
Insurance regulations no longer allow us to provide Telehealth visits.
Other Information
Please do not enter the office unless you are a patient or helping someone who requires physical assistance during their visit.

In addition to our routine janitorial cleanings, the office is thoroughly wiped down twice a day. Each exam room is cleaned after every patient visit. We have a state-of-the-art air filtration system that cycles clean air throughout the office every 11 minutes.

Testing

Information on coronavirus testing specifically tailored for our office.

PCR Testing

For patients who are asymptomatic, a Rapid COVID-19 test will be administered. Patients with a history of direct contact with an individual with a known case of COVID-19 may also be tested using the Rapid COVID-19 test. Results of the rapid test are available within 10 minutes. For symptomatic patients who may test negative via rapid testing, a PCR COVID test will be sent to our laboratory for a definitive result and/or confirmation of the rapid test finding.

If I am PCR tested

If I am PCR tested (specimen sent to lab for processing), what do I do while I wait for the results?

While awaiting notification of the result, patients should self-isolate (quarantine) at home. Anyone else living in the house should also quarantine/stay home and maintain distance from you. The patient should also notify unvaccinated close contacts (family, friends, and co-workers) to self-quarantine for 10 days from their most recent contact.

When do I get the PCR results?
Test results take 24 to 72 hours to be confirmed.
Patients will be notified of the results whether the findings are positive or negative. No need to reach back out to our office –we will contact you.
What if I test negative for COVID-19?
For negative COVID-19 test results, the self isolation period is over. Continue to practice social distancing and other recommended precautions until we receive further guidance from government authorities.
What if I test positive for COVID-19?

For positive test results, whether with a rapid or PCR test, the patient must remain in self-isolation for at least a week after initial symptoms present PLUS 72 hours after beginning to feel better (total of 10 days).. Because the virus waxes and wanes, it is critical to have 72 hours (3 days) of wellness prior to ending your quarantine. This reduces the further spread of illness. Any unvaccinated persons living in the same house with a COVID-19 positive patient should continue to self-isolate for an additional 14 days AFTER the patient’s 72 hours of wellness end.
